Motorcyclists especially vulnerable to injuries after crash

Injuries suffered in any motor vehicle collision have the potential to significantly affect a person’s life. Even when they are seemingly minor, like those causing pain in the neck or back, crash injuries can require a person to to make serious adjustments to their lifestyle temporarily or permanently.

For instance, if you have been in an accident in Tennessee, you may need to take time off work to recover; you may have to start taking powerful medication to cope with chronic pain; you could have to secure ongoing care and/or adjustments to your home in order to continue on with day-to-day functions. Sadly, it is typically the latter of these scenarios that victims of motorcycle accidents experience.

Motorcycle crashes in particular have the potential to result in catastrophic injuries for riders. Riders are completely exposed to the elements and have no barrier between them and other objects. They can also be thrown from their bike in an accident which can lead to a whole host of other injuries.

Recently, for example, a motorcyclist in another state was slowing down for backed-up traffic. The vehicle riding behind, however, did not slow down and ended up rear-ending the motorcyclist. The driver of the car lost control and the sedan ended up on top of the motorcyclist. It took four bystanders to lift the car off the victim.

Thankfully, the rider survived but was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

In accidents like this one where a person is crushed underneath a huge, heavy object, there is the potential for extremely serious injuries. People can suffer broken bones, damage to internal organs, brain trauma and back or spinal cord injuries. In some cases, victims end up paralyzed as a result of being crushed and never walk again.

Considering all the damage that can be done in motorcycle accidents like this one, it can be crucial for victims to be aware of their right to take legal action against the negligent or reckless party responsible for the incident. Doing so can help victims collect compensation they may very well need and deserve.
