Early on a recent Thursday morning, multiple collisions occurred on I-40 West in Tennessee. Both collisions happened near Lovell Road. There were several injuries and one fatality.
The first crash took place at about 3:50 a.m., when a car hit the back of a tractor-trailer. The driver of the car, 34, is a resident of Heiskell. He was injured in the crash. Local crews took him to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. He was treated for his injuries there, but no word on the status of his condition was released to the press at the time. Charges were pending against him.
The driver of the tractor-trailer wasn’t injured. Still, the scene of the accident was one of devastation. A truck driver who got to the scene even before emergency personnel described it as smoke and havoc. When he got there, he found one person trapped. Fortunately, he had a fire extinguisher and was able to spray all around the smoking cars.
Unfortunately, there was a second crash in the area just seven minutes later. In the second crash, an SUV slowed down in response to traffic. When that happened, a car hit it from behind. The SUV then veered off the road. In that incident, the driver of the car that hit the SUV died.
Tennessee Highway Patrol reports say that he wasn’t wearing a seat belt. The passenger in his car, 27, was injured. He was treated at the UT Medical Center and released. The SUV driver, 62, was taken to the same place for injuries.
Accidents like these show how dangerous roads can be. Often, those injured in accident will need time to sort out what happened and explore their legal options. A good attorney can help them do so.
