Trouble with your newborn’s car seat? You are not alone

If you are expecting a new addition to your family in the near future or if you have recently welcomed an infant daughter or son into your home, you are almost certainly familiar with how challenging it can be to deal with infant-related “equipment.” From bottle warmers to cribs, changing tables to infant wraps, the products that manufacturers sell new parents in order to make having an infant more convenient can ultimately cause new parents serious headaches. These pieces of equipment can be confusing to construct, to use and to keep clean.

It seems that no piece of infant equipment is more problematic for new parents than infant car seats. Picking out the perfect model can be almost as frustrating as installing these seats. And installing these seats is no picnic. According to a study recently published in the prestigious Journal of Pediatrics, the majority of American parents suffer at least one error when installing or otherwise utilizing an infant safety seat when their newborns are discharged from the hospital.

Therefore, if you are having trouble with your infant’s car seat, please know that you are not alone. The study’s authors have observed that, “…correct use [of car safety seats] still poses a challenge for almost all families.”

So, what can you do to ensure that your infant remains safe while traveling in your vehicle? Please consider having your infant car seat checked out and professionally installed. If you cannot afford this service, please research infant safety seat installation clinics in your area. Many fire departments, police departments and non-profit agencies will help to check out your car seat and help install it for free.
