The Tennessee Highway Patrol has confirmed that a June 27 accident on Interstate 40 has left three people dead. According to a THP spokesperson, the accident occurred that Friday afternoon, along the Dickson and Hickman County line. Authorities say that a tractor-trailer crossed the median along the interstate and then collided head-on with another vehicle. In addition to the three victims reported killed in the crash, two others were rescued. Police have described the survivors as being in critical condition.
Dickson County Fire and Rescue responded to the crash site near mile marker 163 after they received notice at 1:24 p.m. No cause for the accident was released at the time of the report.

Victims of truck accidents need to know that many times they can sue to recover damages in some cases. That is important because medical costs can skyrocket for a person injured in such a crash. Truck accident victims often suffer substantial injuries due to the enormous size and weight of commercial tractor-trailers.

Sometimes, these accidents are caused by the trucking company’s negligence with regards to their truck maintenance policies. For example, they may have installed defective brakes onto the truck or other critical parts, which may have contributed to an accident.

In other truck accident cases, it may have been an inattentive or impaired driver who caused an accident. There are also federal trucking regulations that govern how long drivers are permitted to operate their trucks. A fatigued driver may be legally liable if it can be established that they were likely impaired at the time of the accident.
